Controls Assurance Director
Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote and office). Must reside within 50 miles/1 hour commute of our Indianapolis, IN, Mason, OH or Waukesha, WI locations.
The Controls Assurance Director is responsible for the delivery of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) 302, 404 and Model Audit Rule (MAR) over financial reporting assessments for external auditors and regulators. Oversee the execution of Service Organization Controls (SOC) Report preparation for external auditors and the company's customers. Procedures are conducted across all lines of business and functions, in accordance with professional and departmental standards. Collaborate with key stakeholders to validate the remediation of control gaps. Advise management to ensure necessary improvements and enhancements are made to internal control design and execution.
How you will make an impact:
Collaborate with management and external audit to design the annual SOX & MAR audit plans and SOC report timeline.
Consult with highly skilled operational professionals in the execution of their audit duties; including, continuous risk assessments, audit planning, audit execution and reporting.
Direct audit team work across multiple projects including scheduling, resource management, performance management, ensuring quality standards are met, and reporting progress to leadership.
Coordinate multiple project management efforts across the Company's departments and lines of business that include Operations, Finance and Information Technology along with external audit teams.
Review test results and reporting of results to executive management.
Prepare presentations to senior leadership, Disclosure Committee, and Audit Committee.
Direct the integration of internal control frameworks of acquired entities.
Identify and mitigate audit risk by working directly with Operations and Finance management to provide internal control best practice recommendations, ensure remediation plans are in place and documentation is completed.
Provide guidance to the team as needed.
Travels to worksite and other locations as necessary.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires: BA/BS in Accounting, Auditing, Finance or related field and a minimum of 7 years in risk-based audits and/or internal controls auditing; or 6 years in public accounting (e.g., Big Four firm); or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
In-depth experience with Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) systems (e.g., Workiva WDesk, Highbond, Audit Board, ServiceNow, etc.).
Experience leading internal audits, managing risk-based audit plan, and promoting audit industry best practices.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:
Mastery of auditing concepts, principles, internal controls and how to apply them.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact and engage with leadership across multiple locations.
Strong critical thinking skills. MBA or CPA, CIA or other relevant professional certification.
Public accounting (e.g., Big Four) audit experience.
Understanding of insurance company operations.
Demonstrate a solid understanding of end-to-end business processes and their critical dependencies.
Demonstrate the ability to effectively collaborate with key stakeholders to bring about change, and possess the ability to effectively manage project change within a dynamic environment.
