Position Purpose:
This position is responsible for the accounting functions related to the sales & use tax and business license compliance processes. This includes participating in the monthly accounting close process, preparation of recurring monthly journal entries and preparation of general ledger account reconciliations. It requires familiarity with general ledger data analysis and the ability to create monthly data files that reconcile to the general ledger for the company’s co-source tax compliance provider. No prior sales tax experience is required. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Senior Tax Accountants to ensure completion of day-to-day accounting and tax operations in the Corporate Tax Department. This position requires the ability to work in a team environment and adherence to deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyzes and compiles sales tax related information.
Assists in the defense of audits.
Provides analysis and information to Sr. Tax Accountant, Mangers, and Staff.
May calculate and prepare Journal Entries.
Research tax issues regarding compliance, and new business initiatives.
May research sales tax audit issues.
Trains other associates.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
Typically reports to Sr. Tax Accountant or Tax Manager.
No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the technical leadership of a project work team: may select team members and assess capabilities, provide technical training, provide information necessary to meet work, project or program objectives, evaluate program or project performance.
Travel Requirements:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years accounting experience preferred.
Proficient advanced knowledge and skill using Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Experience with general ledger software such as SAP or similar software

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.

Competencies:
Accounting and tax compliance knowledge plus knowledge of a specific area of The Home Depot is desirable (not required).
Basic understanding of theories and principles of finance and accounting.
Research, meeting facilitation, and project management skills.
Strong computer skills, particularly MS Excel.
