A role with Target Printing Services means that you’ll be part of a team that leads Target’s Value communication strategy and brings holistic promotional and value stories to life for Target’s guests. The team has a broad range of responsibilities including planning & development, creative, execution and production. Promotions marketing leverages a variety of print and digital media and is responsible for Target’s Weekly Ad, Digital Weekly Ad, Print Promotions, In-store Promotional Signing and Printing Services.
Primary Function
As the Color and PrePress Manager of Printing Services, you will be leading and developing a team of production team members as well as creating, implementing, and maintaining color standards across multiple devices in a fast-paced 24-7 production environment. You will provide direction, set goals for daily production, and manage the performance of your team while providing timely feedback. You are responsible for leading a positive culture where teamwork and a ‘can-do’ attitude is a top priority every day. In this role you are responsible for coordinating projects, training team members, monitoring product and color quality, ensuring adherence to the production schedule, assigning work to team members, maintaining, and purchasing inventory of supply items, orienting new team members, and ensuring safety practices and processes are always adhered to. As the Color and PrePress Manager of Printing Services, you are accountable to completing all tasks as assigned by the Sr. Manager.
About You
5 years’ experience in a Litho and Digital print environment
5 years’ experience in Color Management (Gracol 7)
5 years’ experience in pre-press file operations (Pre-flight to Plate)
A proven track record for leading teams and managing performance
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment through multiple projects and details
Tasks
Color Management
Co-manage press profiling & fingerprinting for all presses, focusing on common substrates and critical colors
Create and manage curves unique to each press & material.
Manage color certification requirements – tracking color data, submitting to color cert company, etc.
Train TMs on color control processes – Prepress & Operators (using color management tools, when to adjust on press vs in file, what adjustments to make based on color data, etc.)
Co-manage press approvals, guiding color adjustments based on color data
Manage calibration of color data reading equipment, ordering new PMS books, etc.
Point of contact for Job Planners, Customers, Production, etc. regarding color
Assist in troubleshooting color issues and the matching of supplied Epson proofs
Work with vendors and color house to ensure color proofs are output with correct curves for TPS
Partner with planning and preflight to help streamline the color conversion process
Help manage/organize color proof retention system
Prepress Management
Oversee/Lead a team of Pre-Press team members. Oversee variable and preflight team members
Oversee the management and execution of planned work through the pre-press process to production
Lead communication strategy of the pre-press team including touchpoints with internal teams planning, scheduling, production
Strategize efficiencies in prep process and troubleshoot issues as they arise, brining solutions for resolution
Oversee cross functional training between all prepress team members to ensure all team members can preflight, prep, plate and do variable work
Develop and implement Prepress processes and workflow to ensure accurate execution of files – from preflight review to plate creation, across all shifts
Partner with Planning leadership to create a more defined workflow for preflight and proofing
Educate planning and customers on how the proofing process works and the shared responsibilities and tools available for proofing i.e., InSite
Understand unique constructions (booklets, folds, etc.), create templates for Prepress & Art Houses to ensure accurate execution
Help create standardized layout for different formats of jobs i.e., standard book templates, gripper margins etc.
Provide guidance for file creation/adjustments for printability and color consistency
Provide guidance for die line creation and how they are implemented in prep
Knowledgeable on processes for all job types and unique file setup – variable data, unique constructions, etc.
Manage training of all Prepress employees to ensure every shift has the capability to process and adjust all job types
Manage all Prepress employees (Preflight, variable data, Prepress Specialists, etc.)
Provide accountability, feedback and training to help all prep employees grow
Manage Prepress software & equipment (Kodak Prinergy and Kodak Preps, Epson printer, Fuji Plate Maker, etc. Prinergy, InSite)
Point of contact for Job Planners, Customers, Production, etc. regarding file creation and adjustments
Provide feedback to the planning team and customers about the files being received by prep and how to better create these files to achieve better outcomes. i.e., file formats, color builds, etc.
Help automate variable file creation
